Parenting: The Acne Obstacle
Parenting can be made all the more difficult when acne comes into the picture. It can be problematic providing tips to your children especially since many baby boomers never had to deal with pimples as children. Teens that suffer from this condition need all the support and guidance they can get. Problems like teasing at school because of pimples can set the stage for future issues. For some reason, there is this tendency for parents to treat acne like just any other stage in life that will eventually subside. This the wrong attitude to adopt. If you want to see your child achieve clear skin, we have some effective strategies to share.
Rapid and continual treatment is a must for garnering relief from acne. Don’t discourage your children from buying acne creams by telling them it will go away on its own. Making jokes at there expense is not a good idea either. No, popping their pimples will not help the situation. It will actually lead to scarring. The correct approach is to visit a nearby skin care store where you can browse treatments with your child. You can ask an employee for help, or can conduct research before laving your house. Now, it’s easy to get mislead by the clever graphs and nonsense found on boxes of acne treatments. They all have essentially the same ingredients and will more less have the same effectiveness. Benzoyl peroxide is always a good choice, just be sure to buy it in low concentrations to mitigate any irritation.
Once you have started your child on a treatment, monitor their progress closely. An alternative plan needs to be in the works in case the first one falls though. Let them know if you see any improvements. These types of comments can really motivate them to continue on with the medications. On the other hand, if things aren’t quite going as planned, just take a mental note for the future. At the same time, make sure they are not falling behind on applications or failing to adhere to application instructions. It is common to see new breakouts in the initial weeks. This means the medication is starting to work. You shouldn’t feel discouraged and neither should they. Give them a heads up if they beginning questioning the treatment.
While giving ample opportunity for the medication to take effect, check back with your child every now and then to ensure they are not being teased at school or somehow otherwise enduring emotional torment. If you find that teasing is perspiring, share some strategies with them to reduce their suffering. You need to gauge what they are feeling as best as possible so you can plan the best course of action.
When you have crossed the three month treatment marketer, it is time to reassess the situation. Is your son or daughter continuing to get breakouts? Do they still show signs of emotional distress? If yes, you should book an appointment with a dermatologist. Such a physician has more powerful medications at his disposal that will treat the problem. Otherwise, if you have succeeded, bravo! Clearly, the only secret is to remain supportive and encouraging throughout the entire ordeal. Acne is not that resilient after all.
