If you’ve decided to go ahead and get a Tattoo, the first step is to spend some time thinking about the type of Tattoo you want. Maybe you have a unique design in mind, or perhaps you have seen some “Flash” artwork which you like.

How to Design the Tattoo : You might not have seen any Flash art you like, but online galleries are a great way of finding ideas and styles. Browsing through this designs can help you to get a feel for the type of Tattoo you want, you may even come up with a design which is a combination of different Flash art.

Online Tattoo Designs : The internet is an excellent resource for finding a Tattoo design which suits you. Many websites offer extensive Flash art designs running into the many thousands. You can easily search and browse a wider range of styles than you would find in any Studio.

Choosing an Artist : Explore some of the tattoo parlors in your area, and if you’ve gotten good word-of-mouth recommendations for local artists, go and check them out. Make sure the studios are clean and well kept. Tattoo parlors have a reputation for being dark and seedy, but there’s no excuse for an unhealthy environment, especially in this age of needle-borne diseases.

Despite (perhaps outdated) perceptions that tattoo studios are intimidating, you SHOULD find that most of the staff are friendly and approachable. They should WANT you to feel comfortable and to share their love of ink with you. If you wander into a place and find everyone to be unfriendly and unwilling to answer your questions, then wander back out again. Of course, sometimes they may just be very busy and not have much time to devote to someone who has a lot of questions. If that is the case, and you like the work they are doing, find a more convenient time to make another visit.

Take you time findingthe right Tattoo Studio – don’t simply rush to the first one you find. Look out for professional sterilizing and sanitary equipment (use of latex gloves by the artists, autoclaves, sharps containers for disposing of needles). Pay attention to how the artists relate to their customers – do they listen to their customers’ concerns? Do they always change their gloves if they touch anything other than their Tattoo equipment? (for example the telephone). Is there a comfortable atmosphere – remember you’re going to be sitting there for quite some time whilst you tattoo is being done!

And Finally, Getting the Tattoo : OK so you’ve spent all that time looking or design the right style Tattoo. Now’s it’s time to go to the Parlor or Tattoo Artist and get inked!
