Why Are Eye Creams Necessary?
If you view your eye area in a mirror that magnifies 10 times, you still won’t see your pores. Therefore, eye area pores are too small and tight to accept the molecules in regular facial skin care products, that’s why specific eye products are necessary. In order to be the most effective, eye area creams or gels must be concistently used after each cleansing your face.
Cosmetic counter advisors can help you determine your skin type; dry, combinaton or oily. To be sure that a particular product is what you need, ask to read any literature that accompanies it. However, having some prior knowledge will work to your advantage.
What Do They Do?
Today’s eye creams/gels are usually designed to respond to specific eye area problems, such as puffiness, dark circles, lines and wrinkles, or just adding moisture to dry skin. In the last few years most companies have added a basic eye cream with a sunscreen to their selection. I’ve seen advertisements for creams/gels that claim to address all of the above concerns, ask for samples to see how effective they are for you.
For puffy under eyes, most under eye gels contain caffeine or a decongestant and are a lighter consistency than creams. They work to reduce puffiness under the eyes by absorbing or dissipating the extra water in that area and moisturizing the surface skin. But, don’t get carried away, you can remove too much moisture if you use it other than after cleansing your skin and too much dehydration produces wrinkles.
The dry skin eye area responds better to creams, which leave a moisture and oil residue on the surface while making the cells beneath the surface plump up. That’s what is needed to give a smoother surface look to dry eye area skin. Only use eye creams after cleansing because using it too often or using too much will produce tiny oil clogged pores or white heads.
If you have dark circles, they may be a sign of a family trait or you may be coming down with something. Consider more resting time or look for vitamin k in your eye cream, either or both should reduce that darkness. Products for dark circles are designed to minimize the capillaries in the under eye area, which will help them move back from the skins surface so the darkness is less visible. If these ideas are not effective for you, a visit to your doctor can let you know if your need a prescription medication and to rule out kidney or thyroid problems.
How Do I Use Eye Creams Or Gels?
Women often say it gets in their eyes, so they don’t use it. That can be prevented by applying a small amount of product on a cotton swab and swiping it onto your ring finger. To warm and equally spread your product, rub your two ring fingers together; warm products spread easier and penetrate a little deeper.
Place small dabs of cream around the under eye ocular bone. Use light strokes to spread cream vertically along the outer eye (crows feet) area. Follow with back and forth strokes through the dotted cream under your eyes; For dry lids, continue around the ocular bone in each direction, a few times.
That’s it; your cream will ease itself up or down, moisturizing the eye area inside your ocular bone. An eye cream or gel is used after toner and before facial treatment or moisturizer. Even though you may not be concerned about lines, wrinkles or puffy eyes, you’ll need to replace the moisture that is removed from your eye area and only use it after facial cleansing. If you’re over 16 and use eye makeup you should be using an eye cream or gel, twice daily. Start early, you’ll thank me later.
